Aker BP launches $455-million field development in Norway

Norway

FORNEBU, April 23, 2024 – Norwegian major Aker BP has begun production at the Hanz subsea field in the North Sea, the company announced on Monday.

Hanz, a shallow-water subsea field tied into the Ivar Aasen platform, is estimated to hold around 20 million barrels of oil equivalent. Aker BP expects to invest up to USD 455 million towards its development.

Aker BP’s development plan contemplates the reutilisation of subsea production systems from the nearby Jette field, which was shut down in 2016. This is the first time that production equipment has been reused in a new field development on the Norwegian continental shelf.

“This is yet another great example of what we can achieve working as one team with our suppliers towards a common goal and with shared incentives. In addition, innovative solutions with reuse of infrastructure and use of cross-flow well have contributed to lower costs and lower emissions,” says Aker BP CEO, Karl Johnny Hersvik.

The Hanz field is operated by Aker BP, with Equinor and Sval Energy as partners.
