Mitsubishi wins work for Kuwait’s Az Zour South power station

KUWAIT CITY, April 23, 2024 – Mitsubishi Power has been awarded a major contract by the Kuwait Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy for rehabilitation work at the Az Zour South power station, the company announced on Monday.

The contract covers the rehabilitation and upgrade of eight steam generator boilers and the replacement of control systems for boilers, steam turbines and auxiliaries.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Az Zour South power station has been in operation since 1988. As part of the large-scale rehabilitation project, Mitsubishi Power will incorporate technology to reduce nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions and align the facility with emissions reduction parameters issued by Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority.

Work will be carried out by Mitsubishi Power together with its consortium partner, Kuwaiti EPC company Heavy Engineering Industries and Shipbuilding (HEISCO).

“We are pleased to sign this contract with the consortium of Mitsubishi Power and HEISCO to ensure the modernisation of Az Zour South power station. Recognising Kuwait’s need for new power capacity to meet our growing energy needs, this project is a critical step towards supporting a decarbonised energy future,” said Haitham Al Ali, assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy.
