Angola quadruples petrol production in Luanda

LUANDA, July 11, 2022 – <a href='https://theenergyyear.com/companies-institutions/sonangol/’>Sonangol has commissioned its USD 235-million petrol production complex at the Luanda Refinery, the Angolan NOC announced on Friday.

The development ups petrol production at the facility from 395,000 to 1.5 million litres per day, lowering Angola’s reliance on petrol imports by 15%.

At the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas Diamantino Pedro Azevedo outlined further plans to build a bio-refinery in Luanda along with the NOC’s partner super-major Eni.

The Luanda Refinery was originally commissioned in 1958 and is located 14 kilometres from the capital city’s centre. The partners began construction of the new unit in June 2019.
