Angola to double electricity output by 2022

LUANDA, July 25, 2018 – The government of Angola has announced plans to double the country’s installed power capacity by 2022, local media reported Tuesday.
As part of the 2018-2022 National Development plan, power capacity is to reach 5.4 GW with 30% coming from private power stations, Jornal de Angola reported.
Plans for a Rural Electrification Agency are also outlined. The country has an overall electrification rate of 36%, but the disparities between rural and urban areas are great.
“This programme seeks to respond to these imbalances, aiming to increase the electrification rate equitably along the national territory,” the government statement read.
