Nigeria, Niger sign refinery deal

ABUJA, July 25, 2018 – Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and his Nigerien counterpart, Mahamadou Issoufou, signed an MoU on the construction of a refinery in Katsina state on Tuesday.

The facility is expected to come on line in the next two years and produce 150,000 bpd, local daily The Guardian reported.

“The initiative will not only provide a reliable market for the stranded crude from Niger Republic but will also provide petroleum products for Nigeria, as it aggressively pursues its aspiration for petroleum product self-sufficiency,” President Buhari said.

Nigerian Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu announced the plans in February.
