Azerbaijan to build first polypropylene plant

BAKU, October 1, 2014 – Mukhtat Babaye, Head of the Azerkimya Production Association of SOCAR, announced the commission of Azerbaijan’s first polypropylene plant is expected by the third-fourth quarter 2016.
The plant will be constructed in the Sumgait Chemical Technology Park with the assistance of SOCAR Polimer, which was created to expand Azerbaijan’s downstream. SOCAR will keep 51 percent in the new plant and offer the rest to private investors.
Other SOCAR projects in Azerbaijan’s expanding downstream include a carbamide and nitrogen plant, which is planned to be completed by late 2016 – early 2017.
