BHP approves spending on Gulf of Mexico asset

HOUSTON, August 6, 2021 – BHP has given the green light for spending of USD 544 million on the Shenzi North project in the Gulf of Mexico, the company announced on Thursday.

 

The project includes two wells and a drill centre north of the Shenzi field that will produce 30 million boepd.

BHP raised its interest on the asset from 44% to 72% in 2020. Repsol holds the remaining shares.

The deepwater Shenzi oil and gasfield is expected to hold 350 million-400 million boe.
