BHP in gas find offshore Trinidad
PORT OF SPAIN, July 19, 2018 – Australia’s BHP Billiton has struck natural gas through the Victoria-1 well offshore Trinidad and Tobago, the company revealed in a financial statement released on Wednesday.
The well, used to assess potential in the Magellan play, was drilled by Transocean’s Deepwater Invictus drillship in the TTDAA 5 block, where the company discovered the giant LeClerc field in August 2016 while exploring for oil. LeClerc is estimated to contain 113 bcm-142 bcm (4 tcf-5 tcf) of gas.
BHP Billiton said the drillship would next be used to drill its Bongos prospect to the north of the country.
