Bilfinger wins FEED for new pier at Kuwait’s Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery
Bilfinger wins FEED for new pier at Kuwait’s Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery KUWAIT CITY, August 8, 2025 – Bilfinger has secured a FEED contract from Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) for the new North Oil Pier at the Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery in Kuwait, Bilfinger announced on Tuesday.
The existing piers at Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery are expected to reach the end of their operational lifespan in 2030 and are deemed unsuitable for rehabilitation. To continue exporting petroleum products at scale without interruption, KNPC is modernising and adding to the infrastructure at the site.
Bilfinger’s scope of work towards the new North Oil Pier and associated onshore facilities includes site surveys, feasibility studies, detailed engineering, cost estimation and risk assessment. The work aims to optimise operations at the pier and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
“We are honoured to support KNPC in realising this critical component of Kuwait’s national energy logistics. We aim to enhance operational efficiency and integrate sustainable practices, thereby reducing environmental impact and supporting Kuwait’s long-term energy goals,” said Christian Rugland, president of Engineering & Maintenance International at Bilfinger.
KNPC is a subsidiary of KPC and one of the largest refiners in the Middle East, overseeing refining, gas liquefaction and the domestic distribution of petroleum products. KPC is targeting to reach 1.6 million bpd in domestic refining capacity by the end of 2025.
Based in Mannheim, Germany, Bilfinger is an international industrial services company that provides engineering and maintenance services to the oil and gas and chemicals sectors, as well as engineering, procurement and maintenance services for energy infrastructure projects.
