BP drilling plans approved in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, March 21, 2018 – Super-major BP will drill its first exploration well in Mexico in Q3 2020, according to plans approved by the National Hydrocarbons Commission on Tuesday.

The well, which is part of a four-year exploration programme, will be drilled in block Salina Basin Area 1 located in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Through the USD 200-million programme, it is estimated that up to 75 million boe can be added to the block’s reserves.

BP operates Salina Basin Area 1 with a 33.33% interest, working alongside partners Statoil (33.34%) and Total (33.33%). The consortium was awarded the block in Round 1.4, held in December 2016.
