BP makes Gulf of Mexico find

HOUSTON, April 28, 2017 – New seismic imaging technology has led BP to discover additional resources in the Gulf of Mexico, the company announced on Thursday.
An innovation that allows BP to enhance images gathered during seismic surveys means the super-major can more accurately drill deepwater reservoirs, especially in areas where complex geological structures obscure surveys. The company said it is also now able to more quickly process the data and make investment decisions.
Using the new technique, BP was able to identify more than 200 million boe in its Atlantis field in the Gulf of Mexico. It plans to use the same technology on fields in Azerbaijan, Angola, and Trinidad and Tobago.
