BP schedules first Panama Canal LNG cargo
PANAMA CITY, June 29, 2016 – The newly expanded Panama Canal will welcome its first LNG tanker next month, the Panama Canal Authority said late on Tuesday. The shipment will be a BP cargo aboard the British Merchant, a vessel to depart from Trinidad and Tobago.
The Panama Canal Expansion Project, which has cost some USD 5.35 billion, was officially concluded with an opening ceremony last Sunday. According to the Panama Canal Authority, the canal could see some 300 LNG tankers pass through on a yearly basis.
