BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim Project achieves first LNG production
DAKAR, February 10, 2025 – First LNG production has been achieved at the BP-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project in Mauritania and Senegal, Houston-based project partner Kosmos Energy announced on Monday.
Natural gas first started to flow from wells to the GTA FPSO on December 31, 2024, where it underwent processing to remove condensate, water and impurities ahead of delivery to an FLNG vessel for liquefaction. The FPSO first arrived on location in June 2024.
Gas has now been delivered to the FLNG vessel and liquefaction has commenced. BP has given notice to the offtaker, BP Gas Marketing, for an LNG carrier to arrive later in Q1 2025 to export the first LNG cargo.
“First LNG is another major milestone for Kosmos, the GTA partnership and the governments of Mauritania and Senegal. We are looking forward to the accelerated ramp-up of LNG production and the first LNG cargo lifting,” said Andrew G. Inglis, chairman and CEO of Kosmos Energy.
GTA is is located in a newly tapped basin offshore Mauritania and Senegal and is expected to deliver 2.3 million tonnes per year of LNG in its first phase of development. The project has been described by BP as “one of the deepest, most complex gas developments in Africa,” due to its location in water depths of up to 2,850 metres.
