CFE awards power contract in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, October 24, 2017 – Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission has selected Spanish firm Acciona to construct infrastructure associated with the Topolobampo III power generation plant, local media reported on Monday.

Under a USD 24.5-million contract, Acciona will carry out works including equipment supply, engineering, electromechanical assembly and commissioning for four separate projects. The company will build two substations in the states of Sinaloa and Sonora, as well as 400-kV and 230-kV transmission lines, together spanning 276 kilometres.

The Spanish company is expected to complete the work in March 2019, ahead of Topolobampo III’s scheduled start date. Iberdrola’s 766-MW generation facility will come on line in January 2020, providing power to 2.5 million users.
