China’s State Grid eyes Brazil investments

SãO PAULO, May 31, 2018 – The State Grid Corporation of China is considering investments in Brazil’s power sector worth BRL 140 billion (USD 38 billion), international media reported Thursday.

Speaking at a conference in São Paulo, the company’s vice-president of Brazilian operations, Qu Yang, said that at least BRL 90 billion (USD 24.5 billion) of that would go towards ultra-high voltage transmission projects to bring electricity from remote areas to major consumption centres.

Other power projects being evaluated include renewable energy developments, particularly generation from solar and wind in Brazil’s northeastern and southern states.
