Chinese company to build Iranian refinery

TEHRAN, May 29, 2018 – A Chinese company will build a USD 2-billion refinery in Mazandaran province in northern Iran, Iranian state media reported on Monday.

News agency IRNA did not name the company involved. The news came as India said it would not abide by US sanctions against Iran following US President Donald Trump’s decision on May 8 to scrap a landmark 2015 nuclear treaty with Tehran that lifted most international sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

“India will comply with UN sanctions and not any country-specific sanctions,” said Sushma Swaraj, the country’s foreign minister, cited by Bloomberg.

Also on Monday, local daily Financial Tribune reported that a gas sweetening train had come on stream in the South Pars phase 22 project.
