Ecopetrol, Occidental discover light oil in Colombia

BOGOTÁ, January 25, 2019 – Colombian NOC Ecopetrol and its partner Occidental Petroleum have struck light crude in the Cosecha prospect in the Arauca department, local media reported Thursday.

The Cosecha C-01 well was drilled at the end of December, reaching 3,300 metres and finding 14 metres of net pay. The well is now producing more than 3,000 bopd of 38-degree-API oil.

“The well adds to the recent discoveries in the area and is located very close to the transportation infrastructure of the Caño Limón complex, which will facilitate development in a future stage of commercial production,” Ecopetrol president Felipe Bayón Pardo said in a statement cited by local newspaper El Heraldo.
