Ecopetrol struggles with Colombia spill

BARRANCABERMEJA, March 23, 2018 – Ecopetrol is taking emergency measures in Colombia to stem an oil spill near the city of Barrancabermeja that has reached Sogamoso River, local and international media reported on Friday.


Different reports cited around 20,000 barrels of oil spilled over the past week, with daily El Spectador saying in a Thursday story that the company had built 50 barriers to contain the leak and relocated 48 families affected by it.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which originated at well 158 of the Lizama field operated by Ecopetrol.
