Egypt’s EGAS signs 10-year FSRU charter with Höegh Evi
CAIRO, May 12, 2025 – Höegh Evi has signed a 10-year time charter with Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for a floating storage and regasification unit, the marine infrastructure player said on Monday.
The company will deploy the Hoegh Gandria in Egypt from Q4 2026.
The vessel will be stationed at the Port of Sumed and will deliver up to 1 bcf per day of peak LNG regasification capacity.
“Höegh Evi is proud of our longstanding role as a trusted energy infrastructure partner to Egypt and we are excited to begin the conversion of Hoegh Gandria to a floating import terminal, highlighting the unique flexibility of marine infrastructure. We look forward to building on the successful long relationship we have with EGAS and supporting the growth of Egypt’s diversified energy system,” Höegh Evi president and CEO Erik Nyheim said.
Höegh Evi will begin immediate conversion of the Hoegh Gandria from an LNG carrier to an FSRU to ensure readiness for the 2026 deployment. The vessel was acquired in February 2023 specifically for this purpose. The project aligns with the company’s strategy to maximise the adaptability and efficiency of marine energy assets.
The Hoegh Gandria will succeed the Hoegh Galleon, which has been in Egypt under an interim charter since July 2024 and is scheduled to relocate to the Port Kembla LNG terminal in Australia in 2027.
