Energy minister of Azerbaijan passes away

ISTANBUL, June 9, 2017 – Natig Aliyev, minister of energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, has died. He passed away in the early hours on Friday in a Turkish hospital.

 

Aliyev had been receiving treatment in Istanbul following a heart attack. He was first appointed energy minister back in 2004, following an 11-year run as president and chairman of the board of directors of SOCAR.

In early 2016, TOGY sat down with the minister for an interview on Azerbaijan’s place as a hydrocarbons producer in the Eurasian region, the country’s production outlook, the potential development of new plays and the government’s plans to increase production of refined products and petrochemicals for export.
