Engineering firms jump on Aramco offer

As many as eight international engineering and construction companies have submitted bids for the much-delayed clean fuels project at Saudi Aramco’s Ras Tanura refinery, people familiar with the work said on Wednesday.

Expected to kick off towards year-end 2016, the work is split in two packages. Engineering, procurement and construction on a naphtha processing facility, the main technical units and power distribution and control systems will be included in the first package. The second package will open offsites and utilities such as tanks, substations and buildings for bids.

Speaking to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, industry sources said JCC Corporation, GS Engineering & Construction, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Samsung Engineering Company and Técnicas Reunidas had placed bids for both packages. Larsen & Toubro of India and <a href=’https://theenergyyear.com/companies-institutions/petrofac/’>Petrofac will reportedly limit their involvement to the second package only.

While the majority of companies declined to comment directly on the news, Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Samsung Engineering Company both confirmed they had indeed submitted proposals.

The commercial and technical tenders for the USD 2-billion endeavour were released in February, the Wall Street Journal reported at the time. Commissioning is expected in early 2020, some four years behind schedule.
