Eni hits pay at offshore Yatzil prospect in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, March 20, 2023 – Eni has hit pay at the offshore Yatzil exploration prospect at Block 7 in Mexico, the Italian energy giant announced on Friday.

The well was drilled by the Valaris DPS5 semi-submersible rig in water depths of around 65 kilometres. The find is located around 25-30 kilometres from previous discoveries.

The Yatzil-1 EXP well is the company’s eighth probe drilled in the Sureste basin.

According to preliminary estimates, the find contains around 200 million boe.

Eni operates Block 7 with a 45% stake along with partners British E&P player Capricorn Energy with a 30% stake and local entity Citla Energy with the remaining 25% stake.

The find follows the Saasken and Sayulita discoveries in Block 10 made by Eni in Mexico.
