Eni, Exxon, Total up for Cyprus blocks

Cyprus
Cyprus’ third offshore bidding round concluded on Wednesday, with Eni, ExxonMobil and Total tapped for Mediterranean oil and gas exploration licences.

Eni, alongside Total, was picked for Block 6, while the ExxonMobil-Qatar Petroleum partnership came out on top for Block 10. Eni emerged as the only bidder for Block 8. Cairn Energy and Delek Group missed out on the opportunity.

The to-be awarded acreage lies in proximity to some of the Levantine basin’s major discoveries. Block 10 neighbours Block 11, where Total will soon test test the hydrocarbons play that yielded the Zohr gas discovery in Egyptian waters. Block 6 situated to the north of Block 10. Eni’s Block 8 lies to the north of the Aphrodite gas discovery made by Noble Energy.
