Fire clips Eni production in Nigeria

LAGOS, June 30, 2015 – A fire at two crude oil storage tanks at Eni’s Ebocha plant in Nigeria has forced the shutdown 20,000 barrels of oil per day in production.

A pipeline connected to the plant was also closed.

A spokesman from Eni, which operates the Ebocha oilfield and associated facilities, said the fire started on Sunday evening.

The fire reportedly started at 11:00 p.m. local time following an explosion.

As of Monday, firefighters were still trying to contain the blaze.

The spokesman said the fire had not spread beyond the tanks’ container basin.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and an investigation is underway.
