Eni takes delivery of Congo-bound FLNG
NANTONG, November 25, 2024 – Eni has taken delivery of the Nguya FLNG vessel from Chinese shipbuilder Wison New Energies at a hull-launching ceremony in Wison’s Nantong shipyard, the companies announced on Friday.
The Italian major had placed the order for the newbuild vessel in December 2022 for its ongoing Congo LNG project. Nguya FLNG has a production capacity of 2.4 million tonnes per year (tpy) and will be deployed offshore Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo alongside the 600,000-tpy Tango FLNG.
Tango FLNG has been operational since December 2023 and shipped its first LNG cargo in February 2024. Nguya FLNG is expected to come on line by the end of 2025, allowing Congo LNG to reach its plateau liquefaction rate of 3 million tpy.
“We were the first to believe in the value of the Republic of Congo’s gas, first for domestic production and then for export. Congo LNG continues to progress in monetising Congo’s gas resources while capitalising on domestic and international opportunities to create further value for our stakeholders,” said Guido Brusco, Eni’s COO of Global Natural Resources.
In line with Eni’s decarbonisation strategy, Nguya FLNG will have a reduced carbon footprint thanks to its design, onboard technology and zero-flaring operating approach.
