Eni unveils new discovery off Mexico

VILLAHERMOSA, July 8, 2024 – Eni has made a discovery of an estimated 300 million-400 million boe of oil and gas in the Mexican offshore, the Italian company said on Monday.

The discovery was made in the mid-deepwater at the Yopaat-1 EXP exploration well in Block 9, operated by Eni with Spain’s Repsol serving as 50-50 partner.

The well is located around 63 kilometres off the coast in the Cuenca Salina area of the Sureste Basin. It was drilled in water depths of 525 metres to a total depth of 2,931 metres, encountering around 200 metres of net pay of hydrocarbons-bearing sands.

The discovery gives a boost to Eni’s plans for building on recent discoveries in blocks 7 and 10, also in the Sureste Basin, to establish a production hub in the area.

The current estimate of resources in place in the Sureste Basin tops 1.3 billion boe.
