Erin Energy, the operator of the Oyo field, drilled to a total depth of around 2,438 meters, reaching the Pliocene formation.

The well is producing into the floating production, storage and offloading vessel Armada Perdana, and it is expected to produce around 7,000 barrels of oil per day following optimisation of the choke size.

“We are pleased that the well is performing in-line with our expectations and we will be working over the next few days to optimise the flow rate,” Segun Omidele, senior vice-president of exploration and production at Erin Energy, said on the its website.

The company also tested the Miocene formation for hydrocarbon potential during its activities at the Oyo-7 well.

The Miocene formation is slated to have recoverable P50 resources of nearly 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Erin Energy is looking to drill at the formation in the fourth quarter of 2015.
