First Shell well in Mexico to be drilled offshore

MEXICO CITY, May 11, 2018 – Shell is aiming to drill its first well offshore Mexico by the start of 2020, international media reported on Thursday.

 

The super-major was awarded nine blocks in Mexico’s second deepwater tender on January 31, and committed to drilling 13 wells in total at the areas.

“Shell entered Mexico in a fairly big way,” Martin Stauble, vice-president of exploration, North America and Brazil, said at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston last week. “Within a year’s time, we have more acreage on the Mexico side than we have on the US side, which is quite remarkable.”
