Hoarded fuel distributed for free in Abuja

ABUJA, December 29, 2017 – Drivers in Abuja received free fuel confiscated from hoarders, local media reported on Friday.

Seven filling stations have been shut down since Wednesday on charges that they were selling hoarded petrol at exorbitant prices and their products were distributed for free, daily The Sun reported.

“I want to warn marketers that don’t want to heed our advice, especially those operating at night, that the law will catch up them very soon,” Maikanti Baru, managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), told journalists.

The NNPC, the Department of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps are reportedly part of the operation. It is the latest measure to combat hoarding in the country, coming a week after NNPC announced that it had doubled the supply of petrol.
