Iran in first Abadan oil find

TEHRAN, January 23, 2019 – Iran has discovered light, sweet crude in the southwestern Abadan region, local and international media reported on Wednesday.

“This is the first time we’ve reached oil in the Abadan region,” Bijan Zanganeh, the country’s oil minister, said, cited by Reuters.

No further details of the find were immediately available. The news came as Iran has been struggling to bypass US nuclear sanctions, re-imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump in November 2018.
