South Korean shipyard wins giant Mexican FPU prize

MEXICO CITY, July 4, 2023 – HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a USD 1.2-billion contract to construct a newbuild FPU destined for the Trion field in Mexico, the South Korean shipbuilding giant announced on Monday.

The 44,000-tonne FPU will have a capacity of producing 100,000 bopd and 4.1 mcm (145 mcf) of gas.

The asset will be constructed at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan yard.

 

The client was not confirmed.

The USD 7.2-billion Trion development is operated by Woodside Energy and involves connecting the FPU to an FSO vessel with a capacity of 950,000 bopd.

Up to 24 wells are planned in the project’s life cycle, with 18 planned in the initial phase.

The field is expected to contain 479 million barrels of oil.

Woodside Energy made its FID on the project in June 2023.
