Kuwaiti Emir picks new oil minister

KUWAIT CITY, December 12, 2016 – Essam Abdul Mohsen Al-Marzouq has been named as Kuwait’s new minister of oil. A former board member of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Al-Marzouq takes over from Anas Al Saleh, who had been acting minister of oil since 2015.

The appointment was made on Saturday by Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, whose new cabinet now includes five family members. The previous government was voted out in late November, with the opposition winning close to half the number of seats in the 50-member legislature.
