Qatar to merge gas firms
DOHA, December 12, 2016 – Qatar allegedly has plans in the making to merge Qatargas and RasGas, local media reported on Sunday.
Citing Qatar Petroleum President and CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, the Saudi Gazette said the merger should be completed in less than 12 months and establish a “unique global energy operator in terms of size, service and reliability.” The new entity would use the Qatargas label.
The Gulf Today quoted Al Kaabi as saying that the move would result in savings in the “hundreds of millions of dollars” and increase Qatar’s competitiveness in the LNG market.
