Kuwait’s PIC closes urea plant

KUWAIT CITY, July 5, 2018 – Kuwait’s Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) has closed its 1.1-million-tonne-per-year urea fertiliser plant, international media reported on Wednesday.

The plant’s permanent closure was initially scheduled for December 2017, but was delayed as Kuwait Petroleum Corporation made more feedstock gas available, a company official told ICIS.

The closure is part of the company’s bid to shift its focus to aromatics and olefins.

PIC will continue marketing area and ammonia for its Bahraini joint venture, Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company.

A subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, PIC manufactures and markets chemicals in Kuwait and internationally and is engaged in several local partnerships and regional joint ventures.
