Leviathan gas to flow to Egypt

CAIRO, November 25, 2015 – The companies developing Israel’s giant Leviathan offshore gasfield on Wednesday announced a preliminary deal under which its gas will be pumped to Egypt.

The agreement, which will last 10-15 years, will see 4 bcm (141 bcf) of Leviathan gas per year purchased by Egypt’s Dolphinus Holdings.

US company Noble Energy and Israel’s Delek Group are jointly developing the gasfield.

In August, the Israeli Cabinet approved Noble and Delek’s field development plan, which will see production start by 2019. Egypt and Jordan were the expected markets for the gas.

Discovered by Noble in 2010, the Leviathan field is one of the largest gas discoveries in recent history, with estimated reserves of 623 bcm (22 tcf).
