Lummus wins SATORP heater supply contract in Saudi Arabia

JUBAIL, February 22, 2024 – Lummus Technology has won a contract to supply eight ethylene cracking heaters at SATORP’s Amiral petrochemical mega-complex in Saudi Arabia, the Texas-headquartered company said on Thursday.

The contract was awarded by Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and its value was not disclosed.

Lummus is a global provider of process technologies and energy solutions.

“Our heaters deliver high reliability, long run lengths and high on-stream factors,” Rutger Theunissen, the company’s chief business officer of services and supplies, said. “These factors — combined with Lummus’ best-in-class technologies — will enhance and optimise SATORP’s operations well into the future.”

The Amiral project integrates the existing 460,000-bpd SATORP oil refinery with a mixed-feed cracker that will produce 1.65 million tonnes of ethylene per year and will include two polyethylene lines, each with a capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year.

In June 2023, project partners Saudi Aramco and TotalEnergies awarded USD 11 billion in EPC contracts for the complex. Awardees included major players such as Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Maire Tecnimont and Sinopec Engineering.

The project is expected to come on line in 2027.
