Lundin spuds in Bertam oilfield

KUALA LUMPUR, October 2, 2015 – Swedish upstream company Lundin Petroluem has spudded its Mengkuang-1 well in the offshore Bertam oilfield in Malaysia, the company announced in a Friday press release.

Over the next 30 days the well will be drilled with multinational contractor Seadrill’s West Prospero rig, to a depth of about 1,300 metres targeting Miocene sands.

First oil from block PM307 in the Bertam oilfield was produced in April of this year. Recoverable reserves are estimated at 18.4 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Lundin and local upstream company Petronas Carigali split the block’s operatorship in a 75/25 scheme. This is the Swedish company’s first offshore development in Southeast Asia.
