Maurel & Prom plans drilling campaign at key Tanzania field
DAR ES SALAAM, October 11, 2024 – Maurel & Prom plans a USD 80-million drilling campaign at its Mnazi Bay gasfield in Tanzania, Upstream Online reported on Friday.
The three-well campaign is scheduled for next year. One of the wells will be for exploration and two will be infill, the report said.
The onshore gasfield holds reserves of 18.1 bcm (640 bcf) and contributes around 48% of Tanzania’s gas production.
In February, Tanzanian NOC TPDC signed a contract with Maurel & Prom to grow its stake in the field from 20% to 40% at a cost of USD 23.6 million. The French company holds the full remaining 60%.
The government is betting on Mnazi Bay for a boost to national gas output, much of which will be directed towards exports to neighboring countries such as Uganda, Zambia, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
French upstream international Maurel & Prom has a presence in several African countries, including Angola, Gabon, Nigeria and Tanzania.
