MODEC wins FEED works for Brazil FPSO

RIO DE JANEIRO, April 1, 2024 – MODEC has won a contract to provide FEED for an FPSO for the Shell Gato do Mato ultra-deepwater pre-salt development off Brazil, the Japanese company announced on Monday.

MODEC will be responsible for the design of the hull and all related topsides facilities for the FPSO, which will be moored at water depths of around 2,000 metres and located around 250 kilometres off the Brazilian coast.

Shell’s Gato do Mato project will extract oil from a conventional, ultra-deepwater pre-salt reservoir, with commercial production beginning in 2026. Shell expects to reach an FID on the project in Q1 2025.

MODEC has a track record of delivering 16 FPSOs to Brazil and has two more under construction. The Gato do Mato FPSO will be the company’s second for Shell in Brazil.
