Mozambique bar association sues Anadarko

The Mozambican bar association has announced it is suing to block Anadarko’s planned Mozambique LNG project, international media reported Saturday.

The bar association argues that the land was illegally taken from locals, AFP reported.

“As part of a legal monitoring project on land rights… we requested the Administrative Court annul the right to use land on an area of 6,475 hectares [64.75 square kilometres],” the organisation wrote in a statement.

Mozambique LNG is a planned two-train, 12.88-million-tonne-per-year onshore gas liquefaction plant designed to process gas from Area 1. The project is operated by Anadarko with a 26.5% working interest. Its partners are Mitsui E&P Mozambique (20%), the state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (15%), ONGC Videsh (16%), BPRL Ventures Mozambique (10%), PTT Exploration & Production (8.5%) and Oil India (4%).
