New play discovered near ageing Norway field

Norway

STAVANGER, October 4, 2018 – Equinor has discovered 50-70 million barrels of additional recoverable crude reserves near the Norne field offshore Norway, the company announced on Thursday.

An appraisal well on the 2017 Cape Vulture discovery more than doubled the reserves estimates at the ageing field, which originally had been planned for shutdown in 2014, the press release added.

“We are very pleased to have proven and appraised a new substantial oil discovery off the coast of Nordland,” said Nick Ashton, Equinor’s senior vice-president for exploration in Norway and the UK. “The appraisal well confirms a new play on the Nordland Ridge in the Norwegian Sea.”
