Nigeria kicks off Kolmani oil development

NNPC and its local partners have begun drilling operations at the giant Kolmani project in the north of Nigeria, the NOC announced on Tuesday.

The first phase of the project involves a 12,000-bopd refinery, gas processing unit, 300-MW power plant and 2,500-tonnes-per-day fertiliser facility. Further phases will include a downstream oil terminal.

The Komani play has estimated reserves of 1 billion barrels of oil and 14.2 bcm (500 bcf) of gas. The initial well is expected to produce 50,000 bopd.

The project has attracted investments of more than USD 3 billion.

NNPC first discovered commercial reserves in the Kolmani area on OL 809 and OPL 810 in the Gongola Basin between Bauchi and Gombe states in 2019 .

The project is being fully developed by indigenous players NNPC, Sterling Global Oil and New Nigeria Development Commission.
