Nigeria to sue oil majors
Nigeria Lagos’ Federal High Court
The two cases, filed at Lagos’ Federal High Court, centre around the illegal export of some 57 million barrels of oil between 2011 and 2014. The undeclared cargoes came to light in a 2014 government investigation into the decline in oil export revenue.
The Nigerian government is claiming some USD 450.5 million from Total E&P Nigeria and another USD 145.8 million from Nigeria Agip Oil Company. People familiar with the case said that Chevron and ExxonMobil were in the government’s crosshairs too.
The first hearings are expected to begin later this week.
