Norwest Energy hits gas onshore Australia

Australia

PERTH, September 8, 2021 – Norwest Energy has hit a gas reservoir in its Lockyer Deep-1 onshore exploration well, the Perth Basin oil and gas explorer announced on Wednesday.

The operation hit a 26-metre gas reservoir in Kingia sandstone at 4,041 metres in the Holmwood Shale prospect.

Additional gas readings were found in a 42-metre gas reservoir in High Cliff sandstone at 4,172 metres.

The company began drilling on Monday with plans to drill to 4,274 metres.

Norwest Energy is currently running a wireline logging programme to ascertain the well’s deliverability.

Production testing is in its planning stages.

The exploration well sits in the EP368 licence, operated by Energy Resources with an 80% share. Norwest Energy holds the remaining stake.

“The success of Lockyer Deep-1 has uncovered a significant conventional gas discovery. We eagerly anticipate the results of the wireline testing program and look forward to updating shareholders on the forward appraisal program once results are available,” said Iain Smith, managing director for Norwest Energy.
