Oil tanks burn as battle rages

TRIPOLI, July 30, 2014 – An oil terminal in Tripoli continued to burn on Wednesday after it was hit by a rocket on Monday in increasing violence in Libya involving planes and artillery and that has killed as many as 200 people in two weeks.

 

Italy’s Eni has offered to help fight the blaze. An agreement between the battling renegade military militias and Islamist militias was agreed to allow firefighters to approach the blaze on Tuesday.

The tanks are owned by Brega and store oil for sale on the domestic market.

Depsite the violence Libya’s oil production is said to be maintaining oil exports of 500,000 barrels of oil per day.
