Oman companies sign gas plant deal
MUSCAT, July 31, 2018 – Oman Gas Company on Monday signed a deal with Orpic for the operation and maintenance of a natural gas extraction plant and associated pipelines connected to the Liwa Plastics Industries Complex.
Orpic, also known as the Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company, is building the USD 6.7-billion plastics complex, located in the Sohar Industrial Area on Oman’s northern coast. The complex will utilise light ends coming from Sohar’s other facilities to increase the country’s plastics production by more than 1 million tonnes per year by 2020.
Under the new deal, Oman Gas Company will manage and operate the plant, to be situated in Fahud, and a 14-inch pipeline linking the plant with the complex in Sohar. The distance between the facilities is approximately 300 kilometres.
Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Masud Al Sunaidy presided over Monday’s signing ceremony.
