Pemex contracts named in Paradise Papers

MEXICO CITY, November 9, 2017 – Irregularities have been identified in past Pemex contracts through investigations into the Paradise Papers, local media reported Wednesday.
According to local non-profit Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity, the state-owned oil company allegedly awarded two rental contracts in 2007 and 2011 for marine platforms to companies with ties to members of Mexico’s National Action Party. The contracts together were worth around MXN 16 billion (USD 1 billion).
The revelations come amid separate investigations of corruption at Pemex related to irregularities uncovered in several contracts awarded to construction conglomerate Odebrecht between 2012 and 2016.
The Paradise Papers, comprising 13.4 million documents, were leaked to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and have been the subject of an investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
