Pemex officials under investigation for corruption

Three top officials at Mexican NOC Pemex are being investigated for corruption practices under the previous administration, local media reported Thursday.

The general director of Pemex’s E&P arm, Miguel Ángel Lozada Aguilar, and two others have been implicated in a scheme whereby public funds were illegally channelled to companies they had ties to through 25 “irregular” contracts.

“We are going to ask these public servants to leave their positions,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said at a news conference, as cited by local newspaper Proceso. “We cannot tolerate anything that has to do with corruption, or even accept suspicions.”

Lozada was chosen to head Pemex Exploración y Producción following President López Obrador’s inauguration last December.
