Pertamina seeking to secure LNG supply deals

JAKARTA, January 28, 2015 – In an effort to ensure a reliable feedstock supply for the planned Bojanegara combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant, Indonesia’s state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina has secured several LNG supply deals, including a 1.52-million-tonnes-per-year agreement with the US’ Cheniere Energy, the Jakarta Post reported on Wednesday.
According to Pertamina’s director for new and renewable energy, Yenni Andayani, the company is looking to purchase additional gas in order secure the entire volume needed for the plant.
The 3×750-MW facility, currently under construction on the island of Java, can receive up to 7.5 million tonnes per year of LNG. Pertamina has secured 4.5 million tonnes so far, including 1.4 million tonnes per year from Indonesia’s Jangkrik fields, operated by Eni in partnership with GDF Suez. Another 1 million tonnes of LNG per year will be supplied by Mozambique. Some 500,000 tonnes per year will be sourced from undisclosed parties across Asia and Australia.
Andayani also said that the secured supplies would start in 2018, about one year after the scheduled completion of the Bojanegara CCGT power plant. The processed LNG will be delivered to government-owned electricity distribution company Perusahaan Listrik Negara, known as PLN.
