RIO DE JANEIRO, December 23, 2022 – Petrobras has begun production at the offshore Itapu field in Brazil ahead of schedule, the Brazilian NOC announced on Wednesday.
The field is being developed by the P-71 FPSO in water depths of 2,010 metres. The vessel has the capacity to process 150,000 bopd and 170,000 square metres (6 mcf) of gas per day and store 1.6 million barrels of oil.
Production was originally scheduled for 2023.
The pre-salt field is located 200 kilometres from Rio de Janeiro in the Santos Basin.
The P-71 is the last of six similar FPSOs ordered by Petrobras to produce from its pre-salt assets, including the P-66 and P-69 FPSOs that are currently working in the Tupi field, the P-68 FPSO that is working in the Berbigao-Sururu field and the P-70 FPSO operating in the Atapu field.
